Hurricane Ernesto Strengthens to Category 1, Bermuda Under Hurricane Warning

Hurricane Ernesto has intensified to a Category 1 hurricane, prompting the National Hurricane Center to issue a hurricane warning for Bermuda.

The storm is expected to pass near or over Bermuda on Friday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and possible flooding.

Ernesto formed as a tropical depression on Monday, becoming the fifth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.

The storm quickly strengthened into a tropical storm, and by Tuesday morning, it had become a Category 1 hurricane.

Before approaching Bermuda, Ernesto dumped heavy rain on Puerto Rico, causing widespread flooding.

The storm's outer bands brought torrential rains to the island, leading to mudslides and power outages.
