Dongfeng Motor Group In Discussions With Italian Government

Chinese automaker in talks to build Italy plant

Dongfeng Motor Group in discussions with Italian government

ROME, Aug 6 (Reuters) - China's Dongfeng Motor Group is in talks with the Italian government about building an automobile plant in the country, two sources familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The plant would be located in southern Italy, and would produce vehicles for both the domestic and export markets, the sources said. The talks are at an early stage, and it is not clear when a deal might be reached.

Dongfeng is China's second-largest automaker, and it has been expanding its global presence in recent years. The company has joint ventures with several major automakers, including Honda, Nissan, and PSA Peugeot Citroen.

Italy has been trying to attract new investment in its auto sector, which has been struggling in recent years. The country's auto production fell by 10% in 2012, and it is expected to decline further this year.

If a deal is reached, it would be a major boost for Italy's auto industry. It would also be a sign of China's growing interest in investing in Europe.
